I find excitement in clean lines and well-balanced forms. I strive for precision as I believe craftsmanship is key to my aesthetic. I want my work to be used. I am inspired by functional ware with clean, crisp finishes. I look at artists like S.C Rolf, Deborah Schwartzkopf, and Martha Grover for how they combine function with interesting forms and surfaces. Making my surfaces comfortable to handle is important to me and I carve texture into my pieces referencing natural patterns such as leaves, tree bark, and animal patterning, bringing in a more natural aspect to my work. I juxtapose these patterns with bright glazes and underglazes to bring a pop of color to my work and create a sense of whimsy and lightheartedness.
