Title
Somewhere In Time - John Barry Piano
Description
This melancholy piece describes how the pandemic has been for me and my emotions during quarantine.
I chose to learn and play the theme from the film ‘Somewhere in Time’, written by John Barry on the piano. I first became interested in the song when I watched the film ‘Somewhere in Time’ during quarantine. I chose this method of expression and as my submission because ever since I was young I have been playing piano and have been involved with instrumental music for the majority of my life. During the pandemic, I spent a lot of my time practicing the piano. I love to express my thoughts, feelings, and emotions through music. Playing piano is also a way for me to relax, and especially during times where I was required to quarantine, it definitely kept me sane. The piece is also very emotional, at least within me I always begin to feel a little melancholy whenever I would hear or play it. 2020 and the pandemic have led to some pretty rough and melancholy times, and playing the piece is a way for me to express my frustrations and issues with the current pandemic. I believe that my recording can serve as a primary source because it displays if not my own emotions and feelings during this time, but the emotions and feelings of many others during this pandemic. I believe that this source would be beneficial for future researchers and students because they would in fact hear in a musical form how I spent my time during the pandemic and throughout quarantine. Throughout our time in class we have been analyzing visual and written primary sources but never have we just sat and listened to a source without any other distractions. I believe a new way of analyzing, just listening would be beneficial for future researchers and students alike and further enhance their understanding of what was happening during the pandemic.
It is also something I learned how to play while in quarantine.
