I sketched out my representation of how COVID-19 has affected my life thus far. The gravestones represent everything that I have missed or things that I no longer get to do due to the pandemic. For starters, the last few months of my senior year were cut short. This meant that I missed out on things such as crowning the next prom king, senior track season, and just spending those last couple of months with my friends and classmates that I had been going to school with for twelve years. Then there was the summer, I was no longer able to see my grandparents at least once a week as I used to do, spending time with my friends got cut even shorter, and going to the gym as I had every day for a while came to a stop. It does not end there. My first year of college, everyone always talks about the new and exciting adventure that college is. There was nothing I was looking forwards to more than going to meet new people, make my lifelong friends, and just have new experiences. To sum it up, COVID-19 ruined all of that for me, restrictions were put in place, classes were barely face to face, and meeting people became a whole lot harder. Even now, as the holidays roll around and the tradition of my entire family getting together is slowly falling apart. I cannot remember a Thanksgiving or a Christmas that I have not had my entire extended family around me, playing board games, laughing at the dinner table, and our favorite tradition of boot hockey in the driveway. 2020 as a whole has been a mess and I know I am not the only one. Corona Virus has affected so many people in a variety of ways, thus the burning city in the background of my drawing. We are all hanging on by a thread and hanging on to 2021 being a better year, but what is going to change other than the year on the calendar?
