I chose to do oral history interviews with friends and family to represent some experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic. I wanted to do this option because I believe that oral histories are very important especially for future generations. These interviews are able to give the audience a better understanding on what life was like during this pandemic. I believe that these interviews are more personal compared to other primary sources because the viewer is able to connect more with the topics since they are able to put a face with a story or experience. I also tried to interview people from different age groups. This gives the audience a better understanding on how the pandemic affected people in different ways and how each cohort had their own struggles.
A primary source is something that contains first-hand information. This means that the audience is receiving information directly from the author of the source. A primary source can come in many ways. Some popular examples of a primary source include speeches, documents, interviews, diaries, and many more. An oral history interview is considered a primary source because the audience is listening to people who personally experienced the Covid-19 pandemic. These interviews contain first-hand information.
I believe that future researchers and students can learn from these interviews because these people are telling their personal experience during the pandemic. This pandemic has been difficult for many people in many different ways and these interviews show the different struggles that people faced. These people are going to gain a better understanding of what living during the Covid-19 pandemic was like. I’m sure that there are going to be many books, speeches, and other primary sources that these future generations will have, but these oral history interviews show a more personal side.
