In 1918 Bill Zorn graduated from high school in Stevens Point, Wis. He enrolled at the Stevens Point Normal School and also joined the Student Army Training Corps (SATC) during World War I. While at Stevens Point Normal Zorn was a captain of the football team during the 1919-1920 school year.

In 1920, Zorn enrolled in the University of Chicago. At Chicago, Zorn played on the football team under legendary college football coach Amos Alonzo Stagg. Zorn was among the most recognized and heralded half-backs playing in the Big Ten in the early 1920s.
